Name:
Colin Black

Profile:
Colin along with his wife Margaret were both born & bred on the Island. They have both lived on the Island all there lives.
Colin serves as a footpath rep and has been on the Countryside panel for the Isle of Wight Ramblers.
Amongst Colin’s many interest are Gardening and in particular Fuchsia growing in which Colin has enjoyed great success in winning the odd cup or two with his stunning blooms.
Colin is also a member of the RLSS (Royal life saving society) in which he is a teacher, examiner and also a trained lifeguard. Colin has also served as an Inshore life Boat, crew member from 1968-1998.
Colin is a member of the Isle of Wight Natural history and Archaeological society (IWNHAS) and is always keen to share his great depth of knowledge of the Island with visiting ramblers.
Colin has been a member of the Isle of Wight Ramblers for many years and has been leading walks for the last 7. He has been leading walks for Step by Step for 6 years and is a valuable part of our team.

Mary Edmunds

Profile:
Mary is a third generation Islander. She and her husband John have always enjoyed walking the Island’s extensive network of footpaths, and showing others the lesser-known areas.
She is interested in natural history, geology and local history, and is a founder member of Wight Nature Fund, which has four nature reserves on the Island.
She has led walks for Step by Step for the past seven years.
She has a passionate love for the Isle of Wight and is deeply involved with country side issues. Mary’s experience of the Island and the country side is greatly valued at Step by Step.

Jill Green

Profile:
Jill, along with her husband Dave have both lived on the Island since 1975.
In the last 20 years Jill has walked over 55 thousand miles world wide (twice round the world). She is a keen race walker and has represented Great Britain in Race walking. She is centurion walker (100 miles non-stop) in six different countries’ and amongst her great number of achievements and has climbed ‘Mount Killamanjaro’.
Jill also enjoys the abundance of Fauna & Flora that the Island has to offer and also holds a Bat licence on behalf of English Nature.
Amongst Jill’s many and varied interest are Poetry, natural history and the study of the Islands wild flowers.
Jill is our longest serving leader and has been with Step by Step since 1986

Mary Barnes

Profile:
Mary is the newest member of our team, joining us in 2007. She grew up in Hampshire and spent most of her childhood holidays on the Island. When she was 20 years old she left England and spent the next 12 years working her way around the world.

Mary came back from Australia overland. Amongst several highlights were watching the sunrise on Mount Everest, travelling through Afghanistan and camping in the Kyber Pass.

Mary moved to the Island in 1979 and lived in Bembridge until 1991.

She spent the next 12 years in Alberta, Canada and while there she enjoyed Horse riding, cross-country skiing and hiking.

Mary returned to the Island in 2003, renewed her membership with the I.W. Natural History and Archaeology Society and joined the Isle of Wight Ramblers.

She lead walks for the I.W. Ramblers and is a Footpath Representative for Sandown & Shanklin.

Mary monitors approximately 56 footpaths and reports problems like overgrown paths, fallen trees blocked access etc to I.W. Rights of Way.

Mary is a volunteer helper with the I.W. Branch of Riding for the Disabled and enjoys church bell ringing and gardening.
