NORTH TO
SOUTH
1. Our
walk starts at Cowes Royal Yacht Squadron and goes
west on the coastal path through Gurnard Bay and Thorness Bay
to Porchfield for a pub lunch. Then heads down to the midle of the
Island.
2.
Start at Carisbrooke. The Norman Castle stands on the site of a
former Saxon fortification.
We carry on south through attractive farm land and rolling downs
to finish at St. Catherine's Down with the Hoy monument at one end
and the Oratory (known locally as the Pepperpot) at the other.
EAST TO
WEST
3 & 4.
This is our classic end to end walk, largely following the chalk
ridge
that forms the back bone of the Island, offering fine views and
varied scenery.
We follow the ancient routes that have been walked for thousands of
years.
Finally we cross the Tennyson Down to finish with spectacular views
across the Needles.
You must be able to walk up to 13 miles per day. All distances
are approximate.
